Skoda India, the Indian subsidiary of Czech automobile giant Skoda Auto, has made its entry into the Web3 space by launching a Web3 and non-fungible token (NFT) experience in partnership with Near Protocol. The platform, named “Skodaverse India,” is set to provide users with a range of benefits, including low gas fees, interoperable NFTs for multiplatform usage, and eco-friendly and scalable NFTs.

The debut collection of Skoda NFTs is scheduled to be launched soon, although no fixed date or offer price has been announced. Users can mint the NFTs by adding funds to their wallets once they are released. These NFTs will grant owners unique digital assets representing Skoda’s artwork or collectibles, with the potential for value appreciation and future resale. NFT holders will also gain access to exclusive perks, rewards, or experiences associated with their ownership. The trading of NFTs will be available using both fiat currencies and cryptocurrencies.

Christian Cahn von Seelen, Executive Director of Sales, Marketing, and Digital at Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, highlighted the significance of Skodaverse as a hub for connection and creativity. He stated, “It also showcases our commitment to sustainability and innovation through leveraging carbon-neutral blockchain technology that enables secure, transparent, and decentralized transactions.”

Skodaverse India will serve as a dynamic platform where users can buy, trade, and engage with NFTs in the Web3 environment. Users can create and maintain their profiles and stay updated on the latest developments through Skodaverse India’s Discord, Telegram, and Twitter channels.

Skoda’s foray into the Web3 realm follows its collaboration with NEAR Protocol, a decentralized application platform and competitor to Ethereum. The automaker is also working with blockchain consulting firm Antier to create unique NFTs. NEAR protocol states that each NFT will unlock exclusive experiences for users.

Skoda’s introduction of Skodaverse India marks its first venture into the Web3 space and adds to the growing list of automakers exploring the metaverse in India. Hyundai launched Hyundai Pavillion on Metaverse via Roblox in January, and Maruti Suzuki launched NEXAVerse, a Metaverse platform, in early 2022. Skoda’s move is expected to contribute to the adoption of Web3 technologies in India and provide its substantial customer base with an opportunity to engage with NFTs.
