New ChatGPT App Update: Plus Subscribers Now Access Bing for Real-Time Answers

Introducing the latest update to the ChatGPT iPhone app: Bing integration. This new feature brings real-time information and an enhanced user experience to paid subscribers, allowing them to delve into fresh insights beyond the model's training data

Just in: the ChatGPT iPhone app, known for its AI capabilities, has incorporated Bing into its interface, aiming to provide its users with real-time information and enhance overall user experience. This, however, comes with a condition: only the paid subscribers of the ChatGPT Plus tier can enjoy this newfound integration.

This move implies that the ChatGPT app, which has previously relied on historical data dating back to 2021 for generating responses, now has access to a more dynamic and recent database. Through this Bing integration, users can dive into the freshest insights and not just depend on the AI’s prior training data.

As explained by OpenAI in the release notes of the latest ChatGPT version for iPhone, “Plus users can now utilize the ‘Browsing’ feature to derive more comprehensive answers. They can get updated information about current events that extends beyond the model’s pre-existing training data.”

ChatGPT Plus users can activate this exciting new feature by enabling ‘Browsing’ in the ‘New Features’ section under the app settings. From there, select GPT-4 in the model switcher and choose ‘Browse with Bing’ in the drop-down menu.

Yes, it might be a bit disheartening for some that Bing is the only search engine this update has embraced so far. However, considering Bing is a product of Microsoft, it isn’t all too surprising. Earlier this year, Microsoft declared a massive investment in OpenAI, reputedly in the ballpark of $10 billion. This investment is the third of its kind, with two prior rounds conducted in 2019 and 2021. Moreover, ChatGPT already plays a part in Bing search for the web and is incorporated into Microsoft’s Edge browser, reinforcing this connection.

Last month, OpenAI unveiled the ChatGPT app for iPhone users for free. The Plus subscription, priced at $20 per month, offers several benefits such as smoother access during peak hours, faster response times, and priority access to the latest features and improvements.

For those unfamiliar with the ChatGPT chatbot, don’t worry, you’re not late to the party. It’s a technology that’s here to stay and continue evolving.
