Zoom Phone: ZVC secures pan-India telecom license

Zoom Video Communications secures pan-India telecom license
The company plans to work with regulators and partners in India in the coming months to offer a complete telecommunications service bundled with its Zoom Phone PBX service.

Zoom Video Communications, an American web conference platform, has secured a pan-India telecom license, the company said today. These licenses will enable the company to offer Zoom Phone to multinational corporations and businesses operating in India.

India’s Department of Telecommunications has granted Zoom with the Unified License with Access – All/PAN India, NLD National Long Distance, and ILD – International Long Distance. With these licenses, the company will be able to offer its cloud-based phone system – Zoom Phone – to MNCs and businesses in India, enabling them to have a single communication platform for their global workforce.

“We are thrilled and proud to receive the unified licenses from the Department of Telecommunications. With Zoom Phone, India businesses and multinational corporations can support hybrid work environments, foster greater collaboration among employees and elevate the customer experience,” said the company’s international head Abe Smith. He further remarked the move as an “important milestone” underscoring Zoom’s focus in “strategic growth market” like India.

With Zoom Phones users can make and receive phone calls, send and receive text messages, and hold audio and video conferences, all from a single platform. The service further offers a range of other features like call recording, voicemail, call routing, call transfer, and call forwarding. It also includes advanced features such as auto-attendant, interactive voice response (IVR), and call analytics, which can help organizations improve their communication workflows and customer service.

The company says to partner with international telecommunication providers and offers phone numbers and calling plans in 47 countries and territories. Zoom Phone has globally grown over 100% year over year in fiscal 2023, surpassing 5.5 million seats in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2023, the company said. Zoom plans to work with regulators and partners in India in the coming months to offer a complete telecommunications service bundled with its Zoom Phone PBX (or Private Branch Exchange) service.
