Koo introduces new Premium feature to let creators monetize content
Koo content creators can generate income through customized subscription plans.

Indian social media platform, and an alternative to microblogging site Twitter, Koo on Thursday introduced a new Premium feature that would let creators monetize their content on the platform. Creators on the Indian platform can create customized subscription plans to monetize their content, while also taking this as an opportunity to engage with followers in a meaningful way.

Koo said that the creators who opt for its Premium service can earn income through customized subscription plans. For this, they will have to provide exclusive content, which includes text, photos, and videos, to the users. Creators can charge their subscribers on a weekly or monthly basis. Koo will charge a 15% platform fee for overall subscriptions from the content creators. Creators who wish to register for Koo’s Premium program need to send an email to special@kooapp.com.

“Koo Premium is the first of many programs we are launching to democratise content creation and enable creators from across the country to monetise their content and build a sustainable income stream from their passion,” Aprameya Radhakrishna, chief executive office and co-founder of Koo, said.

Unlike other social media platforms that have fixed subscription fees, the Bengaluru-headquartered company is giving the creators the freedom to set their own flexible pricing based on the content they formulate. Koo has tested the latest feature with 20 creators and further plans to onboard verified profiles from various fields like journalism, sports, and entertainment in the coming days.

Co-founded by entrepreneurs Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidawatka, and launched during the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, Koo is a multilingual microblogging platform that caters to an audience in vernacular languages. It has a yellow-and-white interface and is available in more than 20 languages including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Bengali, and English. Koo has more than 50 million downloads and is used in 100+ countries across its app and web platform.

Just like Twitter, Koo users can write short blogs and categorize posts with hashtags. They can further mention others in their posts and reply to people. In March, Koo reportedly integrated the popular artificial intelligence-based chatbot ChatGPT on its platform. The integration of the AI bot will help users create posts more easily.
