This year’s Mobile World Congress exhibition 2024 is in full swing as the world’s leading companies and innovators showcase their latest advancements in mobile technology. The is currently taking place in Barcelona, Spain from Monday 26th, to Thursday 29th February 2024. During the event we got to see the unveilings of various cutting-edge innovations like Samsung’s Galaxy Ring, Lenovo’s Transparent Thinkbook, and Motorola’s shape-shifting smartphone including many others.
Chinese electronics brand Xiaomi too, seized the opportunity and left no stone unturned in terms of unveiling the company’s upcoming innovations. Before showcasing, Xiaomi began with a small video presentation with the note “Innovation for everyone”. Here is a complete list of Xiaomi’s new innovations during MWC 2024.
Xiaomi SU7
The main highlight of Xiaomi’s showcase was the SU7 electric car. Popularly known for manufacturing smartphones and smart home appliances, this innovation marks Xiaomi’s bold entry into the EV world. The lineup consists of two models namely, the Xiaomi SU7 and the Xiaomi SU7 Max. The presentation showcased the exterior design of the car in the Aqua Blue color variant. Though the car is about to launch globally, it’s Indian release still remains a mystery.
The 5-seater Xiaomi SU7 sports an aero dynamic design with 9 and 20 inch Brembo callipers, and attractive DRLs. When it comes to performance, the SU7 boasts a 73.6 kWh battery, matched with a potent 220kW rear-wheel drive motor, that claims to deliver a range of over 1200 kilometers. The car features a maximum motor speed of 27,200 rpm, capable of unleashing 425kW of power and a peak torque of 635Nm, setting a new global benchmark for electric vehicles, according to Xiaomi. This car reportedly accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 5.3 seconds. The SU7 series will be available in three colors namely, Aqua Blue colour, Mineral Gray and Verdant Green.
Xiaomi CyberDog 2
After three years since the initial release of the CyberDog concept. This year at MWC, Xiaomi unveiled the CyberDog 2, an upgrade to the four legged dog-like robot. This time however, the CyberDog does look convincing enough (has a head) and seems much like a real dog, unlike its headless predecessor that looked like Boston Dynamics’ Spot. At first glance, the robot looks like a real-life Doberman with pointy ears and features cameras on the nose for identifying objects and for facial recognition of people nearby.
It features a LiDAR sensor, AI control Algorithm for self-balancing, gesture interaction, fusion sensory system consisting of 19 sensors dedicated to vision, touch, and hearing, along with voice control. Boasting a state-of-the-art fusion sensing and decision-making system the CyberDog 2 tries to mirror a real-life dog in both form and function. It stands as a testament to Xiaomi’s unwavering dedication to innovation, boldly redefining the horizons of robotics. With its technology open-sourced, Xiaomi aims to foster an ecosystem that is ripe for personalization and coding, igniting boundless avenues of creativity for developers worldwide.
Xiaomi HyperOS
Daniel Desjarlais, the Director of International Communications of Xiaomi took to stage to introduce the new Hyper OS user interface, seemingly more refined than Xiaomi’s MIUI that could be seen in Xiaomi’s Redmi series. Titled as the next-generation operating system, HyperOS has more fluidic animations and system improvements along with customization features on the lockscreen (much like iOS 16) and new system icons, widgets and the new control center and notification shade. Xiaomi’s “Alive Design Philosophy” in the HyperOS supports complex rendering of animations in weather app and adaptable windows animations. It also features the MiSans Global fontface that supports over 600 languages around the world. The below mentioned devices shall get the HyperOS user interface during 2024.
Xiaomi 14 and 14 Ultra
Xiaomi launched the successor to the Xiaomi 13 series, the Xiaomi 14 series features the Light Fusion 900, Leica’s Summilux optical lenses that are also used on Panasonic’s Lumix cameras. It can shoot with an aperture of f/1.6 . image sensor. The 14 series feature a 75mm Leica telephoto lens. In terms of camera finesse on the 14 Ultra, it features a quad-camera setup that includes one 50 Megapixel (f/1.63) primary camera, accompanied by three additional 50-megapixel lenses offering versatile aperture options of f/1.8, f/2.5, and another f/1.8.
On the front, a single-camera setup awaits, delivering crisp and detailed selfies with its 32-megapixel sensor. Apart from this, in terms of performance, the devices feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC chipset, HyperOS user interface with the latest Android 14. The Xiaomi 14 starts from €999 (Rs.89,726) while the Xiaomi 14 ultra starts from €1499 (Rs.1,34,634)
Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro
Xiaomi launched the Smart Band 8 pro, the successor to the Xiaomi Band 8. The watch shows a bigger upgrade in terms of the display as compared to the Band 8. The band features a large 1.74 inch rectangular AMOLED display, with a pixel density of 336PPI and a maximum of 600 nits of peak brightness. The list of sensors include an accelerometer, a gyroscope, an optical heart rate coupled with a pulse oximeter sensor and lastly, an Ambient light sensor. It can The Smart Band 8 pro has 5 ATM of water resistance rating (that is equal to a depth of 50 meters) and features Bluetooth version 5.3.
In terms of performance, the watch has a battery capacity of 289mAh with an approximate charging time of 80 minutes and can last upto 14 days on a full charge. It supports over 150+ sports modes and has a step-tracker, calorie tracker, heart rate and SpO2 monitor with a sleep tracker too. The watch features improved weather, schedule, and calendar features that are displayed in a wide layout with HyperOS widgets, making it more accessible for users and allowing them to see more information at once. The band is launched with a price-tag of €69 (around Rs.6,200).
Xiaomi Watch S3
Followed by the Band 8 pro, Xiaomi launched the Watch S3 that features a 1.43 inch AMOLED display. However, the highlight was the interchangeable bezels and straps. Users can also twist the bezel and snap it into place, to set a watch face exclusive to that particular bezel on the home screen.
In terms of performance, the Xiaomi Watch S3 comes with Xiaomi’s HyperOS inbuilt and is housed in a lightweight aluminium alloy frame. Similar to the Xiaomi Watch 2, it features over 160 sports modes, now having new winter sports modes. The watch also features a L1+L5 dual-band GNSS support for navigation. This wearable comes in two colors, Black and Silver with a price-tag of €149 (Rs.13384).
Xiaomi Watch 2
The Xiaomi Watch 2 features a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, much like the S3 with a pixel density of 326 PPI, coupled with a peak brightness of upto 600 nits. Encased within a sleek aluminum alloy frame, this device tips the scales at a mere 37g. Notably, it features a 5ATM water resistance rating, ensuring durability in various environments. It features a battery capacity of 495mAh and charges in about 45 minutes and provides an impressive battery life of up to 65 hours on a single charge.
When it comes to performance, the Xiaomi Watch 2 is powered by the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset designed specifically for smartwatches and is fueled by Google’s Wear OS platform. With a generous 2GB of RAM and ample 32GB storage capacity, it can make room for Android applications and extensive contact lists. Available in Black and White variants, this wearable comes with a price-tag of €199 (Rs.17875).
Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro
The Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro, is the successor to the Xiaomi Pad 6. It features an expansive 12.4-inch 6K IPS LCD display imbued with Dolby Vision, with a 144Hz screen refresh rate and a responsive 240Hz touch sampling rate. It is capable of achieving a peak brightness of 900 nits, ensuring vivid visuals even in bright environments. In terms of audio experience, it features quad speakers enhanced by Dolby Atmos.
The Xiaomi Pad 6 comes with generative AI features inside Xiaomi’s Mi Canvas app that lets users to directly draw and transform their creations into anything by adding text prompts. Performance wise, the Pad 6S Pro is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, offering enhanced CPU and GPU performance compared to its predecessor, the Xiaomi Pad 6. Users can choose from a variety of memory and storage configurations: 8GB/12GB/16GB RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB storage options. It is available in three colors namely, Black, Blue, and Green. Out of the box, the tablet runs on MIUI 14 based on the latest Android 13. It starts from a price of €699 (Rs.62,781). That being said, it does look like a promising year ahead for Xiaomi.
